Our Vision

Our vision is rooted in compassion, prevention, and accountability.

We believe compassion means listening, understanding individual circumstances, and responding with dignity, respect and practical support. Prevention requires financial assistance to help individuals and families stay afloat, together with trusted resources and support tailored to their specific needs before instability becomes a crisis.

We believe prevention also means paying attention to the pressures that can affect the stability of a community. Small business owners can face serious challenges involving landlords, property conditions, city departments, permitting, infrastructure and other issues that can threaten their livelihood. We want to help bring awareness to these challenges and help people better understand where to turn when they need answers or support.

Accountability matters as well. Communities should know who represents them, which city offices and departments are responsible for the issues affecting them and how to make their concerns heard. We believe public officials should approach the challenges facing their communities with compassion, responsibility and meaningful follow through.

We also want to encourage greater civic awareness. Local elections matter. City councils, public agencies and elected officials make decisions that affect neighborhoods, businesses, public services and everyday life. People should know who is making those decisions and understand that voting is one of the most important ways to participate in their community.

I personally used to believe that my vote did not really matter. My perspective has changed. I now understand that every vote is part of how communities make their voices heard and I believe people should take that responsibility seriously.

A Day of Sunshine is not here to tell anyone who to vote for. We want to encourage people to stay informed, ask questions, understand who is responsible for what and participate in the decisions that affect their lives and communities.

We also hope to develop programs that begin in elementary school and continue through middle school and high school, encouraging compassion, awareness, responsibility and community involvement from an early age.

Our goal is to listen, bring attention to problems that may otherwise be overlooked, connect people with trusted resources, provide financial assistance when needed and encourage cooperation before difficult circumstances become larger crises.

Beginning in Los Angeles, we hope A Day of Sunshine can grow into a model that communities across the country and around the world can adapt to their own needs.

As A Day of Sunshine continues to grow and evolve, we hope to strengthen individuals, families, small businesses and communities through compassion, prevention and accountability.
